Red Light

So I was almost hit by a car again just now.

I was on my way to campus, and I was on my bike. There is one light that you have to go through before you actually get on campus. I feel safer at crosswalks that are at lights (you know, pedestrian crossing even though it is also a car light) than at normal crosswalks, because there is a bigger penalty for drivers when they run them (a.k.a. they might hit another car, which could also hurt them).

So anyways, I'm at the light, waiting for it to turn green for me. I hadn't put my ipod in my ears yet, and I though I might have enough time to, but decided not to in the end. I saw the opposite direction's crosswalk light change to "don't walk" and got ready for my light to say "walk." I always make sure that I wait for that because Utah drivers (myself included) are more prone to take a yellow light. [side note: I always get terrified when other people start walking during the yellow light because of this]

The crosswalk light changed, and I started forward on my bike. There was a truck waiting for me to cross so it could turn left. I started pedaling (I don't worry about pedaling across a road crosswalk, where as I walk my bike if it is a normal crosswalk) and I could hear the oncoming cars headed for the red light. Then I noticed that one of the sounds wasn't slowing down like it should (you know, a car that is slowing down gives off a different sound of its wheels on the road than one that isn't). I grabbed my breaks as fast as I could, just in time to see a girl in a silver car run directly through the red light in the lane where I probably would have been half-in had I not breaked when I did.

She was absolutely oblivious. She didn't even look around. It looked like she could have been texting to me, but I can't say for sure.

I was shaken, and sat there for a second or two, wondering why my horn didn't go off (apparently I had reflexively grabbed my break in a motion similar enough to honking my horn in a car that I was confused for a second). Then I noticed the truck was still kindly waiting for me to finish crossing, and I biked across the street and on my way.

I am a horrible judge of time, distance and speed, but I am pretty sure that I came real close to getting hit, and maybe if I hadn't been there, the truck would have gotten hit because it wouldn't have been waiting for me.

I am still kinda shakey inside, and it is almost an hour later as I write this. I am surprised that I am this shaken, but also surprised that I am as fine as I am. It was scary, that is for sure, but it wasn't as traumatizing as I thought it would have been.

I am just glad that I decided not to put my ipod in, or I wouldn't have heard the car. I can't say if it was luck or if I was prompted not to, but either way, I am glad.

Stupid Game

So I was just playing Slinkers' new game he made and I took forever to find the freakin' duck. Then I got to the final question: How many fishes can you put in an empty pond? I googled, made a guess, and still couldn't find it! Then I figured it out! Empty doesn't mean no water, it means no fish. therefore, you can only put one fish into an empty pond, because the moment you do, the pond ceases to be empty!

I thought you all should know the answer so you can stump your friends!!

My blog

So this is my blog. I made it because I had an idea on what to use it for, then forgot what my idea was. XP But it has been laying fallow of any posts by me for a long time, so I figured I would just make one little post to take up some space.

For the moment, this blog has no purpose, but I may randomly post things here. Or not, who knows XD
